  • A child born with FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome) is usually small or premature with a smaller skull, eyes, upper lip, and nose.
  • Adolescents who consume alcohol are 7.5 times more likely than non-drinkers to report that they have been arrested and charged with breaking the law.
  • The effects of alcohol appear within 10 minutes and peak at about 40 to 60 minutes. Alcohol stays in the bloodstream until the liver can break it down. If alcohol is consumed faster than it can be broken down by the liver, the blood alcohol concentration level rises.
  • Alcohol decreases activity in parts of the brain; this may partially explain the uninhibited behavior of an individual that has had "a few too many".
