Social drinking is most commonly defined as alcohol use in social settings where no harm occurs to the drinker or others; alcohol abuse is when alcohol is used in situations which the user or others might be harmed, as in the case of drunk driving.
In 2009, the Monitoring the Future Survey reported that 37% of 8th graders and 72% of 12th graders had tried alcohol, and 15% of 8th graders and 44% of 12th graders drank during the past month.
Many different medical based studies related to alcohol have reported that women absorb and metabolize alcohol much differently than men; thus rendering women more vulnerable than men to alcohol-induced liver, heart and brain damage.
Even very small amounts of alcohol can reduce coordination, slow reflexes and lead to boisterous and overconfident behavior.
